AI Web Design — WordPress
WordPress
with AI.
Build faster.
Build better.
WordPress is still the most practical platform for SA businesses. AI tools make building on it faster than ever. Here's the workflow that combines both properly.
Why WordPress is still the right choice for SA businesses
Despite the rise of Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, and various AI website builders, WordPress remains the right choice for most South African businesses that need a professional online presence. Here's why:
Total ownership. Your site, your server, your data. No platform can pull the rug. When your business depends on your website, this matters.
SA hosting market maturity. InMotion, Hetzner, Afrihost — the SA hosting market is competitive, affordable, and reliable. WordPress runs on any of them.
SEO control. Rank Math, Yoast, full schema control, custom redirects, server-level caching. No platform-level SEO limitations.
AI compatibility. HTML/CSS generated by Claude or ChatGPT drops directly into WordPress Code modules. No translation layer needed.
The combination that works
WordPress handles the infrastructure. AI handles the content production. A human with strategic judgment handles the brief, the decisions, and the quality check. This combination produces better results than any single tool alone.
The AI WordPress build workflow
Define the brief with AI
Describe your business, audience, and goals to ChatGPT or Claude. Ask it to suggest a site structure — pages, URL slugs, content hierarchy. Use this as a starting point, not a final answer.
Set up WordPress properly before writing anything
Install your theme and child theme. Install Rank Math and configure it. Set permalink structure to Post name. Install WP Rocket. These fundamentals need to be right before content goes in — fixing them later is painful.
Generate page copy with AI
Page by page, using the voice brief prompt (see below). Homepage, service pages, about page. Brief the AI properly — who this is for, what they need to know, what you want them to do. Edit each output before it goes anywhere near WordPress.
Generate page structure and schema
Ask AI to write the HTML structure for each page — headings, section layout, FAQ sections. Ask it to write the JSON-LD schema markup for each page type. These go into the WordPress Code module and the page head respectively.
Optimise each page in Rank Math
Set the focus keyword, check the title tag and meta description, verify schema, confirm the canonical URL. Use AI to write better title tags and meta descriptions if the first versions aren't compelling.
Technical quality check
PageSpeed Insights for performance. GSC mobile usability test. Check all pages are indexed. Verify redirects are working. Submit sitemap. AI built the content — you confirm the technical execution is sound.

Common WordPress + AI mistakes to avoid
Publishing AI content without editing
AI copy pasted directly into WordPress without a human edit produces content that ranks poorly and reads worse. Always edit — at minimum for tone, accuracy, and SA-specific details. See the writing guide for how to do this properly.
Skipping technical setup
AI generates content beautifully and has no opinion on whether your site is properly indexed or your Core Web Vitals are passing. The technical setup is still your responsibility. Do it before the content goes in.
Not setting up Rank Math before creating pages
Install and configure Rank Math before creating a single post or page. If you configure it after content exists, you'll need to go back and fix schema, sitemaps, and canonical settings across everything you've already published.
